Many of you have been asking me if I will be running again in November. Actually, I still have two and a half years to complete my term since council members are elected for a four-year period. There are two representatives from each ward and the terms are staggered.
So I thought it would be helpful to just clarity who is going to be finishing up their terms. Hal Brown (Ward 1), Eileen Rogers (Ward 2), and Melodee Hallet (Ward 3) will all be completing their first term and are eligible to run again. Jim LiVecchii will complete his first two-year term as mayor and can also run again. I expect these individuals will announce their intentions for the future over the summer.
You should also know that the boundaries for the wards have changed. Ward 2 is bounded by D Street and J Street with Ward 1 being west of J and Ward 3 east of D. You can look on the City website for a detailed map of the wards.
I urge you all to participate actively in the upcoming election. Work for the candidate of your choice and of course, consider running for office. Don’t forget that the treasurer and clerk positions will also be open. They are a great way to serve the community and learn more about council operations while fulfilling the duties of these offices.
